Community Beaches & Parks

Cochrane is a sparkling jewel in the summertime. Lake Commando provides a refreshing refuge from the summer heat and is smack dab in the heart of the community. This spring-fed lake features an unsupervised beach along the north shore with watercraft rentals throughout the summer months. Take in a two-kilometer stroll around the lake or find a local park and enjoy a walk, as well as many other recreational activities that await your presence.

PARKLAND AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN

This Master Plan is a municipal guidance document and was designed to enhance the Town’s parkland and recreational assets and services. The Master Plan outlines goals and strategies and provides direction for the next ten years. 

Lake Commando Beach

Part of Cochrane’s charm is the beautiful Lake Commando, a community crown jewel situated at the center of town, making it a favorite spot for many residents. Soak up the sun at our local downtown beach.

During the summer months, beach rentals are available from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Rentals include Kayaks, Canoes, and Pedal Boats. You can easily spend a whole day at the beach.

The beach is open to the public from July 3rd to September 4th; however, the beach is unsupervised and parents/guardians are responsible for the welfare of their children.

Memorial Park

On Lake Commando, Memorial Park commemorates the fallen soldiers of Cochrane who have fought for our country. This trail connects through the center of Commando Lake and around to the town’s retail hub, passing over the Commando bridge and beside the bandstand. A residential favourite trail to walk or cycle during the summer months.

 

Queen Elizabeth Park

On the East side of Lake Commando, Queen Elizabeth Park is an open area for walking and relaxation. A residential favorite area for picnics and watching nature during the summer months as well as a designated area for tobogganing in the winter months.

Hillcrest Park

Hillcrest Park is a favorite area for kids to enjoy. This park has everything you need for a fun-filled afternoon at the playground. Park features include; playground equipment, swings, sandboxes, basketball courts, portable toilets on-site and close to the Glackmeyer soccer fields, baseball diamond, and skate park.

Sara’s Dog Park

Located near the Golf Course, Sara’s Dog Park is the only leash-free dog park in Cochrane. It is a fenced area for dogs to freely run and socialize. We ask all owners to use their best judgment and understanding of their furry friends when deciding if their dogs will be able to interact in a friendly manner while at the park.

 

Silver Queen Park

Located at 77 Silver Queen Lake Road, this park has a boat launch for those looking to go fishing and do water sport activities.
