The Town of Cochrane would like to inform residents that the current smoky conditions in the area are not the result of any local wildfires. The smoke we are experiencing is originating from ongoing wildfires in Manitoba.
Our air quality monitoring station at the Cochrane Fire Hall recorded a level of 206 this morning on the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI). This falls within the 201–300 range, which is considered a Health Alert. Prolonged exposure to air quality at this level can increase health risks for everyone, particularly those with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
We wish to reassure residents that the fire risk within the Town of Cochrane remains low at this time.
