Public Notice - Changes to Residential Recycling Program Effective January 1, 2025

As of January 1, 2025, residential recycling in Cochrane will transition to a producer responsibility model.  This shift will place responsibility for managing residential recyclable materials to the producers, as part of Ontario’s plan to enhance recycling efficiency and promote sustainable waste management.

Important Information for Residents:

  • No Change to Pick-Up Dates: Recycling will continue to be collected on the same schedule currently in place.
  • New Recycling Collection Provider: Residents will see GFL Environmental trucks picking up recycling materials starting in January.
  • Recycling Bins: Residents will contact GFL Environmental with regard to recycling, including any issues related to Blue Bins.

  • Recycling Bin: A recycling bin will be added at Cochrane’s Fournier Landfill as another opportunity to divert recycling from our landfill.
  • Commercial Recycling: Recycling for businesses, including the use of Blue Bins, is not part of Ontario’s transition to a producer responsibility model. There are no changes to Commercial Recycling at this time. More information will be provided to businesses as soon as it becomes available.
