I am disappointed to see posts on Facebook and social media that question the integrity of the municipal staff and the Town’s recruitment process. Some of the posts suggest that unsuitable employees were hired to work for the Town, specifically targeting those who are not originally from Cochrane. Sadly, that type of sentiment is both short-sighted and unworthy of our community’s good name particularly during the period we are promoting Cochrane as a career destination for physicians to come and be part of our community.
The Town of Cochrane’s recruiting process is one of utmost integrity and professionalism. All staff, including senior managers, go through a vigorous selection process including background checks. Our goal is to secure the most competent people to deliver the highest degree of service in all areas of municipal government. Each and everyday day the Town’s managers and unionized employees carry out their duties professionally and diligently, and I know that we all appreciate their hard work.
This is not the time to start throwing stones at each other and spreading rumours. We need to separate facts from fiction, rumours from stories, and personal preferences from what is in the Town’s best interests.
I want to remind all who post on social media, that you are responsible for the comments that you make and could be held responsible by those affected by your statements. Of course, you can reach out at any time to share your views on any municipal issue by contacting your elected officials – we welcome such contact.
As Mayor of Cochrane, I assure you that council and I are taking all appropriate steps to respond to this situation and ensure that the Town’s interests are foremost. At the appropriate time, as we are able, we will make a public statement.
