COCHRANE, ONTARIO, May 31, 2021 — The Mayor and Council on behalf of the Town of Cochrane send their deepest sympathies to victims and their families of the 215 indigenous school children who lost their lives and were buried in a mass grave in Kamloops BC.

In a symbolic display of sorrow and solidarity the Town will be changing its entrance feature sign to be backlit with orange for the next 10 days to honour the victims and their families and to remind our community of the tragic injustice our indigenous brothers and sisters endured while being force relocated from their communities to attend residential school.

The Town of Cochrane acknowledges the tragic and devastating impact Canadian residential school had on indigenous families and communities and we vow to never forget or repeat this dark chapter of Canadian history.
